Choosing a domain name
Choosing a domain name is as important as picking a logo or company name. Buying a domain is like buying a piece of real estate. Choose wisely and the value of your domain itself will multiply. Spend foolishly and you’ll find that you’re back on the market 6 months later selling below market value. Here are a few things that you might want to consider when picking a domain name.
- Take a trip to Google’s keyword tool and figure out what you should call yourself. Do people search for website design or just webdesign? You might be surprised at the result.
- Search google and make sure google doesn’t think your new brand name is a typo. That would be bad.
- Search google and see if you have a lot of competition.
- Make sure you can buy the .com, .net and .org of your domain
- Make sure you can buy the plural, singular and any possible misspellings (DmarkDesigns, Dmarkdesign, DemarkDesigns)
- stay away from the dash (-)
- stay away from acronyms, abbreviations, or numbers unless you use them in your brand
